Things are getting really hard right now and as i’ve said before me and my family are financially struggling. We’re stuck in the same shitty situation and I’m currently unemployed. Please if you could donate something it would mean the world to us, if you can’t please boost this post!

It’s strange to me that people get so upset about stories, especially for kids, in which a parent or familial figure who mistreats the main character ends up mending their ways and improving themselves and their relationship with the main character.

There are plenty of examples of ones that are more like “your parent is doing their best! Be more understanding that their life has been hard!”, but that’s not the kind I’m talking about. I specifically mean stories like Encanto and Turning Red where the familial figure realizes the harm they’ve done and improves their behavior.

I understand that’s not usually how it goes in real life and I understand the importance of the message that “you can’t keep holding out for people who won’t change” but it’s seemed to me, at least in the more recent examples I’m thinking of, the message has never been one to the child seeing themselves in the main character, saying “hold out hope they’ll change”, but to the parent of that child, watching alongside them, saying “you are the one who has to change. It’s not up to them to mend the relationship. If your child sees themselves in this, consider the role you play within the same story, and how it can end happily like this one, or tragically”.

The message to the child never seems to be “you have to fix the relationship”, it’s always seemed to encourage them to not accept it. To not swallow down the pain of it and pass it on to the next generation. To confront it. But not to fix it. That always has to come from the other party.

Stories aren’t meant to show things necessarily how they are in real life. They’re meant to show how things should be. To teach us something. And, for me, these stories are about realizing that you have to be the one who breaks that chain, not your child. Is it realistic to imagine that message will be learned by the people who need to right now? Maybe not. But fantasy exists in many forms, including wish fulfillment. And those children seeing themselves in Mirabel or Mei Lin today may one day find themselves growing into Abuela or Mei Lin’s mother and remember the lesson they learned when they were the child who needed an apology.

Rent help needed!!

Monday, April 25th: Hi everyone, I’m Gemma, a bi, mentally ill disaster, who is in desperate need of help as I’m really struggling to pay my overdue rent of £327.58, but I only get £317 in welfare on the 29th, so I desperately need help.

As most of you are already aware from my previous posts, I have been struggling financially these past few months due to my welfare benefit (Universal Credit) being under a review, which is due to my worsening mental/physical health and the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned. And at the moment, I’m currently struggling to get by, as my application for Disability (PIP) was declined despite recently being diagnosed with PCOS & MDD. And due to Covid, I have been waiting for a DWP health assessment, which is to assess my ability to work, and due to this, my debt from overdue bills is piling up which has made it difficult to pay my rent and utilities.

And I know this is a huge ask, and I’m completely heartbroken to be asking for help again, but I still desperately need some as I don’t have anyone else to turn to, and I’m not due to receive my welfare until the end of April, but it isn’t enough to cover my rent, utilities, bills and groceries. However, if I can cover my rent, I’ll worry about the rest later.

If anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would literally save my life, and sharing definitely helps just as much as donations. Nobody is obligated in any way to donate if they can’t or don’t want to, I know we’re all struggling right now.

£61.05/£330!!

I have 3 days to pay off my overdue rent. If anyone could spare anything at all to help me, even if it’s just a £1/$1 or a reblog, it would mean so much to me. ❤

£64.05/£330!!

caramel frappe PLEASE

ms paint drawing of a stick figure clutching a caramel frappe. the grip is causing blood to drip from the places where the fingers meet the cup and blood is dripping from the eyes instead of tears. the look on the face is of anguish.

#this art is so evocative. it feels like a goya painting
